Amanda was born in Vancouver and raised in Steveston, BC. Growing up, she was active in various sports including swimming (Richmond Rapids), tennis, basketball and competitive horseback riding. A torn medial meniscus in her knee introduced her to the benefits of chiropractic, physiotherapy and massage therapy as essential aspects of rehabilitation as well as their roles in the maintenance of good health. After completing first year biology at Kwantlen, Amanda decided to pursue a career in massage therapy.
Amanda graduated with honors from the 3000 hour registered massage therapy program at Vancouver College of Massage Therapy (formerly Utopia Academy) in 2010. She has been a member of both the College of Massage Therapists of BC (CMTBC) and Massage Therapists Association of BC (MTABC) since 2011. Through her clinical internship as well as her massage therapy practice, Amanda has gained experience working with individuals who have: orthopedic conditions, overuse injuries, motor vehicle accident related injuries, developmental disabilities, high risk pregnancies, multiple sclerosis, HIV, depression, anxiety, chronic pain and work place injuries requiring occupational rehabilitation programs.
In addition to her work as a massage therapist, Amanda enjoys a healthy lifestyle including: weight training, running, spin classes and yoga. When she isn't working out she loves to read, watch TV/movies and plays three musical instruments. Amanda is also an avid video gamer. This influenced her greatly in choosing the name Level Up Massage Therapy for her massage therapy practice.
Amanda's focus for treatment includes:
A.R.T. is a movement based massage technique that treats problems with all types of soft tissue in the body. "Every ART session is actually a combination of examination and treatment. The ART provider uses his or her hands to evaluate the texture, tightness and movement of muscles, fascia, tendons, ligaments and nerves. Abnormal tissues are treated by combining precisely directed tension with very specific patient movements." To learn more about this type of treatment, click here.
"RockTape is the world’s best kinesiology tape. It can be used to treat sports and non-sports injuries, including shin splints, plantar fasciitis, runner’s knee and back pain. RockTape microscopically lifts the skin away from the muscle and fascia below, which decompresses the area and promotes blood flow. Stretchier, stickier and stronger than the competition, RockTape is preferred by medical professionals throughout the world." For more information on how it works, click here.
